Asthma Self Help Aid

HealthfulChat recognizes how life altering having asthma or other respiratory conditions can be, and is here to offer you peer support in the form of an Asthma/Respiratory Conditions Chat Room, asthma/respiratory conditions forums, and the asthma and respiratory conditions social network. The philosophy of HealthfulChat is that there is power in numbers. Although HealthfulChat always recommends that proper medical treatment be the first course of action for anyone suffering from a respiratory condition, we also believe that a strong peer support network can help you deal with the day-to-day struggles that having any one of the many respiratory conditions forces you to face.

This portion of HealthfulChat wishes to connect you with others who know the feeling of losing your breath and reaching for your puffer, and the overwhelming and blinding fear that accompanies it. The gasping and the wheezing in considerably warm or cold weather; the inability to exercise anytime you want, and the expense of running an air conditioner in your home day and night during the summer months. The parent whose heart breaks because they know their precious son or daughter cannot try out for the sports team of their choice due to having been diagnosed with childhood asthma. If any of this sounds familiar, you are one of the millions of people worldwide who are affected by asthma or many of the other countless respiratory conditions.

Although so many do suffer from one of these conditions, those who do not often underestimate how serious they can be. "According to WHO estimates, 300 million people suffer from asthma and 255 000 people died of asthma in 2005."1. The same source also states that people are severely under-diagnosed, and that many of these respiratory conditions begin in childhood; though many are not properly detected until adulthood. Asthma has also been linked to fatigue, insomnia and frequent absences from school and work. Perhaps you have found the right combination of medications to keep your respiratory condition under control after searching for many years, and wish to share this knowledge with others who will benefit from it. HealthfulChat requests that you enter this asthma/respiratory conditions peer support society and share your new found wisdom.

Other respiratory conditions include, sleep apnea, pulmonary hypertension, bronchial asthma, and chronic lung diseases such as COPD, more commonly known as emphysema, to name a few; COPD being the fourth leading cause of death in the United States on its own. HealthfulChat wishes to show you that you are not alone in dealing with your respiratory condition, and encourages you to make full use of all that this asthma/respiratory conditions portion of the website has to offer to you.
